LOS ANGELES (CNS) – City firefighters needed help from county and Vernon firefighters to subdue a stubborn, general alarm blaze that broke out this morning at a commercial building in Boyle Heights, a fire department spokesman said.

The fire inside a one-story, corrugated metal commercial building at 1500 Mirasol St., between the Santa Ana (5) Freeway and East Olympic Boulevard, was reported at 10:33 a.m., said fire department spokesman Erik Scott.

The building was 100 feet by 50 feet and the flames threatened nearby buildings, Scott said.

City firefighters soon upgraded the fire’s status and called in help from the county and the City of Vernon to battle the blaze, Scott said. The department dispatched 75 city firefighters to the scene. The combined fire-fighting effort needed 53 minutes to knock down the blaze, Scott continued.

No injuries were reported.
A damage estimate was not immediately available. The cause of the fire
was under investigation by the city fire department’s arson section, Scott
said.
